The Wood Workshop is a centre of great activity at RDA Tauranga.
We have several dedicated volunteers who produce a huge variety of items as well as work with special ‘helpers’ who come to us through the District Health Board and other organisations who offer support to those with need from within the community.
We have received some significant support for this area in the form of wood and other building supplies. One of the recent enterprises was the construction of elements for a sensory trial. Special ramps and walkways were constructed to give the riders an opportunity to experience different sensations especially in regard to sound and feel while out riding. The trail has also been a useful tool for training horses. The timber for this particular project was supplied by Jim Gartshore of Gartshore Construction in Tauranga.
Other enterprises that have developed within the RDA Wood Workshop include the building of book shelves and other office equipment and equipment to store tack and horse feed.
The Workshop plays an important role in the program that District Health Board offers to some of its adult clients.
The cost of sponsoring the Wood Workshop for a year is $1,500.
